With the following quotations, the Tibetan master of the Great White Brotherhood takes a position on the question of how Hitler and his group were to be classified at the time of the war.
The quotations all date from the war or shortly thereafter. This is a selection that could be further expanded.
Any association of Hitler and his group with the White Brotherhood is completely out of the question.
From the book ‘The Spiritual Hierarchy Appears’:
The tendency to view the war solely as the work of Hitler and his evil crew should not blind us to the causes that made his evil work possible. He mainly accelerated its outbreak, for through him, selfishness and cruelty in the world were brought to the fore. How did Christ say it? “Woe to the world because of offences! Trouble is bound to come, but woe to the person through whom it comes!” (Matthew 18:7). The causes of this rampant evil lie in humanity itself. (181)
It is important that people face the facts immediately. They must recognise the kind of order Hitler wants to impose on the world and what would be in store for humanity if the Axis powers were to triumph. The attraction and influence of material things, as well as the focus on the external world, have brought the aggressors so much success so far. Precisely because of their power, these aggressive forces have welded together a group of seven men who personify major and special aspects of material forces (the seven types of energy in their lowest and coarsest form) and their visible effects – war, fear and cruelty. These seven all have a single point of view, a single goal, and that is why they are successful. This group of seven men is completely dominated by dark forces; the men themselves have no power over these forces. The forces of evil sought out those leaders and groups who, in contrast to the spiritual leaders of humanity, were to embody materialistic aspirations. They took possession (this expression is well considered) of the evil men who led the Axis powers: Hitler, Tojo, Goebbels, Ribbentrop, Himmler and, to a much lesser extent, Mussolini, Hess, Göring and others. They completely overwhelmed the minds and aspirations of these men, whose ambition and sadistic tendencies were already abnormal. You may ask who ‘they’ (the forces of evil) actually are. I mean those intelligent, evil, loveless and hateful individuals who are to the unscrupulous egoists and materialists of the world what the masters working under the leadership of Christ are to struggling and striving human beings. The power of these evil forces is immense, for they have no inhibitions, they know no decency and do not care about human limitations; they work through violence, coercion, cruelty, hatred, terror and lies; they strive to subjugate human consciousness through complete control of human thought, by preventing good and right and by spreading evil and misery. They stimulate people’s brains with the help of their sinister magical knowledge; I mean this literally and physically. The Great White Lodge, which works under the inspiration of Christ and Shamballa, is inevitably subject to certain spiritual limitations. Coercion is not permitted; people’s thinking must remain free and must not be hindered. On the other hand, the stimulation of human souls is permitted, because this gives people the inner drive to express love and mutual understanding, and this leads to right human relationships. These spiritual limitations considerably delay the progress of the forces of light; for example, the long duration of the war is partly due to the fact that the armies of the Lord were not able or willing to commit such crimes as those instigated and perpetrated by the Axis powers. The will aspect of God’s nature established clear and direct contact with human thinking for the first time. The dynamic impulse was direct and was not – as previously – diverted to the hierarchy and sent from there to humanity. Great, good people appeared who proclaimed the truths needed for the New Age; examples of these include Lincoln, Roosevelt, Browning, Briand and a number of less significant men.
